Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, or EHS, is a discipleship course written by Pete Scazzero. Attention to our interior life is a missing component in so much of church discipleship, and this course helps us grow in our own emotional maturity and understanding of ourselves while inviting us to rest and abide in Christ.
This 8-week course has two main emphases - Emotional Health and Contemplative Spirituality.
Emotional Health, most simply, is growing in an understanding of your own inner life. What drives and motivates you? How are you showing up in different situations in your life? Are you the same person at home, at work, with your friends, or do you have lots of different versions of yourself? How do other people experience your presence or your leadership? The study will guide us in asking some of these big questions and growing in our emotional maturity.
Contemplative Spirituality is "slowing down to be with Jesus." It is an invitation to spend time being with Jesus. We often make our spiritual lives all about doing things for Jesus, but if we only focus on doing we will certainly grow weary. Jesus' invitation in the gospel of John is to abide, to dwell in him. When was the last time you focused your spiritual life on being with Jesus?
Our next EHS class will be on Wednesday nights during the months of March and April. Dates are March 4, 11, 18, 25 and April 1, 15, 22, 29. Class will meet from 6:30-7:45 in the Family Room at Faith Reformed Church. There is a $15 cost for materials.
